Mindset Shifts from a Million Dollar Chiropractic Assistant #80
It only takes ONE person to believe out loud.
So can your chiropractic team still hit its year end goal when the number feels too far away?
Yes... when somebody on the team believes out loud that you can.
No new system. No bigger bonus. One person saying, "We can hit it," and meaning every word.
Stay with me, Doc. This one is for any team staring at chiropractic year end goals that feel far away... and for the C.A.s who sit right in the middle of that number every single day.
The Monday I stopped believing in our goal
Let me take you back to the year we hit our first million dollars. (I did NOT think we were going to.)
Late in the year, we were so far from our target. I felt defeated, almost. And I was the one at our office who always went after the goals and the bonuses.
Then came our Monday meeting. Our doctor was trying to pump us up. And in my head (I never said it out loud) I was telling myself we weren't going to hit it.
I'd already decided I wasn't going to work as hard, either. I didn't think we could do it.
Then my coworker Nancy, who worked our front desk, looked right at me and said, "Miranda, we can hit it."
Nancy was NOT usually the one chasing the bonuses. And the way she said it... her belief was SO strong. Her energy was contagious. Something in me just shifted.
I decided to believe in her... and in me.
That year was our first million dollar year.
If Nancy isn't in that meeting, or she doesn't say what she said, I'm not working as hard. I know that for a fact. And we do NOT hit it.
Pause here for a second... who's the Nancy in your office right now? And who might be waiting for one?
Why doubt (and belief) travels around a room
I never said a word that day. Not one. My doubt was in that meeting anyway.
Side note... actually no, it's not a side note. It's the whole point.
Researchers have looked at exactly this. Sigal Barsade of Yale conducted a lab study where a trained person planted in a group acted out different moods while the group made decisions. In the published study, mood moved from person to person. The groups that caught a positive mood cooperated more, had less conflict, and felt like they performed better.
(It's a lab study, so I'm using it as a nudge, not a promise. But it sure matches that Monday.)
Your team usually hears your energy before they hear your plan.
I brought the doubt. Nancy brought the belief. Guess which one the room picked up?
Two months is about nine Mondays
This year, from the first Monday in November to December 31st, that's nine Mondays. Nine huddles. Nine chances for somebody to say, "We can hit it."
Two months can move so much faster than we think when somebody believes out loud. I've seen it.
This is what I mean by "Treat today like December 31st." Not panic. Not scrambling. The calm, focused energy of a team that already decided how this year ends.
How do you believe out loud when the number feels too far away?
This is a mindset shift. It releases the old idea that belief has to come from the doctor, the top collector, or whoever has the biggest title.
Before: that number is too far away, so I'll quietly pull back.
After: that number is far, so somebody has to say out loud that we can still hit it.
Here's what that looks like in real life:
- Name the number. The real one, and how far away it feels. Say it out loud at your next Monday huddle. (Want a way to keep it in front of everyone? I wrote about writing your team's ONE number down, in code if it needs to stay private.)
- Pick ONE person. Not the whole team. One teammate whose energy has dipped. Look right at them and say, "We can hit it."
- Back it with ONE move that same day. A reactivation call. A prepay conversation. A rebook before they leave the front desk. (Belief PLUS receipts. You know I'll always take both.)
- Say it again tomorrow. Belief is a daily thing, not a one meeting thing.
Okay, quick story... because believing out loud can feel a little silly at first.
One of my client offices sits in a New York brownstone on a residential street. It's hidden. No foot traffic. Their belief? "We NEVER get walk ins."
On a coaching call, I had them roleplay walk in scenarios anyway. Practicing for the exact thing they were SURE couldn't happen.
That afternoon, the office got a walk in.
Coincidence? Maybe. I'll take it anyway.
That's believing out loud. Sometimes it's one sentence at a Monday huddle. Sometimes it's a roleplay for the walk in the team swears can't happen. Either way, somebody said it out loud first.
If you're a D.C. reading this...
Truth over comfort... your team can't carry a number they've never heard.
Nervous to share your year end target with them? I totally get it. And I'm putting something together on exactly why your C.A. needs to know your goals. Follow along so you don't miss it.
For now, imagine we're already in your Monday huddle together. Here's the first move I'd have you make: say the number out loud. Then ask your C.A., "What would help you believe we can hit it?" Let your C.A. answer first.
And Doc, if you're the one who's been carrying the belief for your whole team... this is your invitation to let somebody else carry it for a minute.
So which office are you building... one where the number lives in your head, or one where the whole team says it out loud?
For my C.A.s reading this...
Nancy wasn't the one chasing the bonuses. She wasn't the one giving the pep talk. She worked the front desk, and she changed my entire year with five words.
You don't need the top collection numbers or the loudest voice to do that. You just gotta claim it. Call it out.
This week, be somebody's Nancy. One teammate. One sentence. "We can hit it."
And if YOUR belief is the one getting low? Let somebody carry it for you this week. Needing that isn't weak. It's how teams work.
Who on your team could use that sentence from you this Monday?
The shift to walk out with
Think of the number that feels too far away right now. This week, say out loud to ONE person that you can still hit it, and back it with ONE move.

Believing out loud works best as a daily habit. That's why I built Morning Momentum inside my Connected C.A. Community: a short message every weekday morning that takes less than a minute to read. Your C.A. also gets two live group coaching calls a month (with replays) and a community of C.A.s and offices growing together.

Frequently asked questions about chiropractic year end goals
How can a chiropractic team hit its year end goals when it's far behind?
Start by saying the real number and the real gap out loud at your next team huddle. Then have one person believe out loud that the team can still hit it, and back that belief with one specific move that day. A reactivation call. A prepay conversation. A rebook before the patient leaves. Small moves, repeated every day, add up over about nine Mondays.
Should a D.C. share the year end goal with the C.A.?
A C.A. can't carry a number they've never heard. When your C.A. knows the target, they can connect everyday patient conversations to it. Share the number at a Monday huddle, then ask your C.A. what would help them believe it's possible. Let your C.A. answer first, and listen to what comes up.
Can one person really change the energy of a chiropractic team?
One person can shift a room more than we expect. Yale researcher Sigal Barsade found in a lab study that mood moved between group members, and groups that caught a positive mood cooperated more and argued less. It's one study, so treat it as a nudge. In my office, that person was Nancy, and her five words changed our year.
How can a C.A. support teammates when the goal feels too far away?
Pick one teammate. Look right at them and say, "We can hit it." Then back it with one action that same day, like a reactivation call or a rebook. You don't need a title or the top collection numbers to do this. You just need to say it out loud and mean it.
